ENGINEROOM CLAMP Pt 3

Now have the clamp in place and bolted in with 1/2 inch copper. Note that it is in one piece as not much curve in plan ,there is a bit of set to follow the shear, and I think we have a mate for the starboard side. Machining up the shelf in 2 peices to go on soon and then the whole lot bolted right thru.

ENGINEROOM BULKHEAD PT 3...

So the aft face was completed today on the engineroom bulkhead-12mm marine ply.All the 'studs' ,horizontal beam and deck beam are new-Port Orford Cedar grown here and known as Lawsons Cypress (who was Lawson?) The original moulding to the hull stayed.and of course all those lovely new copper bolts fasten it all together.
There will be lawsons t,g and v fixed over the ply.

On the engineroom side ,which is open now there will be sound barrier and then t,g and v.

Also today the final 2 sheets on the after deck were glued down---so ready to slide the wheelhouse aft, which will give access to all the ropey clamp, shelf and beams.

ENGINE ROOM BULKHEAD Pt 2

Big job on the bulkhead aft of the enginroom. All the long steel bolts had to be removed and most of the framing replaced. Here is a shot of the famous draw hammer in action-no bolt can resist this tool!

Of course you do need some sort of head to pull on, if none left have to weld a head on.
And here are two new copper bolts in the knee....

WHEELHOUSE...

Well we did move the wheelhouse forward today. This is to take the weight off the engineroom bulkhead while it is rebuilt. Later we will roll it all the way aft and can then sort the engineroom deck beams.Eventually will move back to original spot.

ENGINE ROOM BULKHEAD...

Serious work to do on the bulkhead aft of the engineroom. It was cracked down in the bilges so doublers each side glued and bolted with copper bolts. The sawn pieces up each side are full of 55yr old steel coach bolts and have to be replaced with copper-I had a large heavey draw-hammer made which has made thier extraction possible.Separated various parts of bulkhead and glued up with the new bolts. Talk of moving the wheelhouse forward tomorrow  We will see......
There will be a lot of ongoing work rebuilding this bulkhead . . .

STEERING BOX...

The 72 kg Holroyd steering box is now installed and connected to the rudder tiller-all painted yellow

The box is so heavy we tommed it so that the deck beams are not deflected and this deflection captured when deck laid and glued down. Will later be removed.

Also installed the tiller stop

WHEELHOUSE...

Last week the rear end of the wheelhouse got the big heave ho.Trying to reduce weight as much as possible before we move it aft temporarily and some of it won't be needed in the new layout.

DECK...

Today saw the first plywood sheets laid on aft deck. 18mm marine hardwood ply very good quality. We will cut and fit temporarily and then mark beams and hatch openings underneath, then remove sheets and do a paint job on them as the deckhead underneath. No paint where there are deck beams as want to glue the sheets down

.Now the sheets are laid out on ,foredeck' and masked off  -paint job for me over the weekend.
Also must go aft and catchup all the paint jobs BEFORE the deck goes on permantly.
