DIESEL FILLERS

Have mounted the two diesel fuel fillers at each corner of the wheelhouse.Way above any seawater and a great handhold I thought. The hole below will be for the deckwash.

CABIN COMBINGS-FINAL

Final layer of the 'cake' installed. Ports in and Iroko corner trim glued, plugged and sanded.Getting ready for the 4 lamination top -beamless.

LONG HOLES

Bored all holes fore the long 3/8 copper holding-down bolts to the cabin combing. With three off us moniting all came out in the beams beloww OK.

PORTS

Did a trial run and fitted the 5th port into the workshop aft combing. Getting ready to do the 4 in the cabin combings.

The second layer of the cake fitted. The verticals at each corner are plumb and are useful to dry clamp to. the corners are half lapped alternately with a bevel at 45 deg that will have a vertical cover batten.

CABIN COMBINGS

This is the cabin in the foredeck over the the Evening Saloon and Sleeping Cabin. It is narrow to retain usefull decks space but will give headroom when standing below. There are 2 opening ports each side. Each 'lift' is glued with a tongue set in grooves top and bottom. the lower lifts are bedded on 3mm of bedding compound and will be set up with 3/8 copper bolts right thru the lot and deck beams below. the fore and aft ends are plumb.
Note newly installed hydraulic lines to anchor winch below-they will be under the settees.

EDNA (cont)

Sails being tried out as preparation for a shakedown trip to The Barrier. Hopefully there be may be some JP Lister stuff to be had.
Note that Mason Bay's wheelhouse roof fits in rather well. No ports in cabin yet but are planned - Herreshoff style.

EMERGENCY STEERING

Fitted aft deck, the poop deck,around the opening for the emercency tiller. have sandblasted it and painted. I believe there was a blog on it previously? March 28th

PORTHOLES

I have 5 of these ports. Will put 2 each side of the coachroof to the evening saloon and sleeping cabin. The last one to the aft combing to the workshop. They are chromed bronze and have not been installed in a boat yet. Tho they have changed hands a few times!

SALOON COACHROOF

Time to start on the evening saloon coachroof. This is the mockup. The unpainted patch is for the mast step. The teak hatch I bought from Freedom Yachts (in recievership) for $100 is waiting in the background.

We had a visit from Beryl,s relatves last Friday the 4th November and here are some fantastic shots taken by a photographer with a geat camera and LENS. Shots of yours truly and Marcus my great shipwright and Robin,Bobs wife. I think you will also get a glompse of the master painter!

GALLEY BENCH

Over ayear ago B and I travelled 250kms south with a trailer to a) visit my brother in Hamilton and b) to pick up a Kauri slab I had bought over the net,It is an old counter top from a laundry and one piece 2.7m long, 700 wide and 50mm thick ($nz350) .Done - I thought, my galley bench solved. It stayed racked down below in the timber rack all this time. Now we are ready for it as it will form a longitudinal brace for the last plywood panel to close up the deck saloon. Made a pattern and cut it to shape. It spans the whole distance and will one day have a shelf below, but its done for now. One end rests on the aluminium double-hung window frame where it was rabeted to rest on with the wet box below, the other end on a cleat by the alcove for the wood range. As soon as it was up the last ply panel was glued and screwed on and lo and behold tools ended up on it!
