ONE YEAR'S WORK.....

Well its been one year since we hauled MASON BAY out in Whangarei,NZ. so I thought a reminder is in order! A lot of work done maybe on to the easier ,less boring bits now. And need I say some dollars!!!!

ENGINEROOM CLAMP Pt4..

This is the complete process for the installation of the starboard clamp...

First up is the planing of the shear along the top so that it fits snug under the covering board...

Looking along it you can see the curve of the shear, A piece will be glued to the bottom to retain a constant depth. It is not possible to edgeset a board this deep.

The rear now has to be backed out for the heads of the fastengs so that the clamp lies tight onto the tops of the ribs.In the foreground, but on the other side is a scarf ready for the next clamp forward when we get to it. Clamp is also primed before instalation..

Finally epoxy glued to the scarf exiting from the rear engineroom bulkhead. Use a single screw at forward end to support the weight untill the 1/2 in copper bolts are installed...

Later the 2 part shelf will be glued on and bolted thru to support the deck beams...

New end on one of the deck beams epoxy glued on.

SOUND INSULATION....

Ten sheets of sound insulation arrived today.It is foam with a lead sheet suspended inside and in 1m by 1.3m sheets. It will be put in both the fore and aft engineroom bulkheads and in the deckhead. In this case the wheelhouse floor.Hoping to quiet the ISUZU!!!  Not that it was that bad.

EMERGENCY TILLER

Had to cut the opening in aft deck to expose the rudder shaft with its square top. Bit of a tricky measuring moment! Getting the emergency tiller rewelded at the moment. want to see if it fits! The bronze fitting is the deck opening used to access the rudder head. Dont forget we still have the Kauri to be fitted on top of the plywood.

MOTOR REVIVAL Pt 2

Most of the stuff reinstalled onto the motor. Still a few things to go eg need a helicoil as one of the studs on the heat exchanger is a bit slack.Starter motor ready. Air cleaner on its way. Do we need an air cleaner- no dusty roads at sea???

ENGINEROOM DECK BEAMS

Started work on refurbishing the deck beams removed from the engineroom when we moved the wheelhouse off. Two are thowaways tho may be able to get trimmer half beams to the hatch, rest can be saved I think by removing all the steel bolts and fastenings,gluing in dowels and filling blemishes.Some will require new ends scarfed in to give good timber for the end bolts.

STEERING

Now got the rear steering shaft bolted in and connected with the chain drive to the steering box.

You see we had to wait untill I had put the bulkhead lining up to position the shaft in the for and aft location.
