MOERANGI DELIVERY

 

Helped the new owners of the 110 year old MOERANGI deliver her to new home port, Whangarei.
No problems and good weather made for a happy trip.
87 n.m. at 8 to 8.5 knots and about 1 litre per n.m.
Nice to be long and relatively narrow.
55ft by 12.5ft by 5ft6 and 22tonnes

BEDDING

 

The Admiral has been busy organising the bedding for Mason Bay. We hope to depart end of November for 3 months on the coast over summer.
Summer has not arrived yet!
So we now have our own double bunk, a visitor's double bunk (Richie for you!) , and 2 single bunk sets, duvets, sheets, pillows.
Nothing like being prepared.....

HAND BILGE PUMP

Finally got the hand bilge pump to suck up the 2 meters. There was a minute crack in the hose, so a new length sorted it . It has been a bit of a struggle to isolate the problem. But now have a fancy foot valve and strainer on the bottom!

Used another of my deck prisms to shed some light to the the dim dark lazarette. Boy does it work!

MOERANGI

 

You would not believe that this boat is 111 years old. Launched in 1901 at he Logan yard.
I held a friend's hand while he did the deal. We had a close scrutiny of the MOERANGI built using the triple skin system perfected by the Logans for their well known racing yachts, many of which still sail and race in the Hauraki Gulf today.
Launched originally as a schooner with a 20 hp motor to tow fishing boats out of a South Island port. Later was a ferry boat on Port Chalmer's waters,fishing boat and trawler, ending up as a charter fishing boat.
55ft by 12ft6in and 22 ton powered now by a 90hp 5L3 Gardner diesel and 2:1 Gardner gearbox. 8 lt/hr at 8 knts.

Now have our little MP3 player connected up wirelessly thru the radio. Now we can listen to our music as well as the COCERT PROGRAMME!..
