The rebirth and conversion of a New Zealand fishing boat-and maybe her further adventures. Other boats and observations will happen from time to time.....

ENGINEROOM DECKBEAMS...
All the deck beams, now fitted in place including trimming beams for hatch. These have been temporarily fastened in place as we have to remove for motor and tanks. We also will fit the ceiling, set 27 mm down onto battens fastened to each side of the beams.6mm ply (prefinished) will be laid with 20mm sound insulation on top before the final 18mm deck.We want this all ready to go once the motor is installed- hopefully to keep clean in the engineroom.
Last job of the day was to prime the beams-smelly job! Not painting the tops due to glueing ply down.

NEW STUB SHAFT
Got this piece of gold back from the hydraulic engineers the other day. It will bolt onto the existing crankshaft pulley to replace the fisherman style welded one that was there. Engineer had seen one give way with side loading continually flexing the welds. This has been machined out of solid shaft. It will have 4 pulleys - 2for the deck/bilge pump, one for the new hydraulic motor and one spare.
There is talk of another alternator, small, just to charge the starting battery. The point being that it is not possible to charge the two systems from the one alternator as the battery charging requirements are different... any comments gratefully absorbed!...

ANCHOR CHAIN...
A local boatyard was having a Saturday sale and I spotted this pile of 1/2 in - 13mm new galv shortlink anchor chain. Rushed back to bring the gypsy, sort of half hoping it would not fit -fat chance - fitted perfectly ! $nz 750 for 50m normal retail $28 / m. So withe the 60m I already had (second hand stuff) we now have 110m. I wanted 100 to go with our new 40kg ROHCNA. ......

WATER TANKS
Finally got the starboard water tank installed. Getting the mounts shaped and welded and bolted in had to be taken stage by stage. Each tank holds 425 litres and is spun polypropolene with 6mm wall thickness very heavy and strong...
These rings are for the water tank-starboard
By the way can not sort this new blogger image upload - all the fotos just stack at the top of the page despite what I do ! so they are all back to front...

BACK ON AGAIN!!!
Sorry about that. Sorted by our resident wizz--Seems the new edition of Blogspot and the new Java have issues.
KNEES again this time in engine room to aft bulkhead. They were there before, tho some would say that having a ply deck makes the knees not neccessary, I put them in anyway-at least Marcus did!

MOTOR REVIVAL Pt 3
Just about there with the motor.Waiting on the new machined stub for the power takeoffs--Hydraulic and deck wash/bilge pump...
You can see where it bolts onat the end of the crankshaft. It is milled out of solid stock to replace the old one which was only welded to a flat plate and with the side load could fly apart. Will photograph when arrive if they have not thown away.
